This project re‑envisions Hayes Hall’s lobby by pairing its 19th‑century brickwork and stone archway with Muuto’s clean, Scandinavian furnishings, creating an inviting hub where students can gather, study, and converse. Current Hayes Hall Lobby
History of Hayes Hall
Hayes Hall—completed in 1893 as OSU’s first permanent academic building—was a three‑story, wood‑framed brick structure that originally housed Industrial Arts, Art, and Military programs. Named for Rutherford B. Hayes and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, its stone‑arched façade remains largely intact despite successive interior remodels (1930s–1970s) that replaced gun rooms, foundry, and target range with studios, classrooms, and safety upgrades.Current Hayes Hall LobbyFloor Plan Rendering
